TransAction 2006

There is this conference that I was considering whether I should go to, when I saw they conveniently had a paragraph devoted to people like me (said paragraph is quoted at the bottom of this entry).

There is very little information about the sessions anywhere in the text, but they go on to describe the different bars at the Tropicana (the Trop) in great detail. I’m intrigued by the possibility to see the “leanest cold cuts I’ve ever seen.” Also I am greatly intrigued as to what a cheese mirror could be. Have they found a way to make cheese reflective? If anyone can help me out with that, it may make the sumptuous buffet all the more worth my money and time.

Inspiration.

I have a desk calendar that is very nice and old and maybe even real silver. It is from a great uncle I never met. When you reach the end of the month and flip it over, it says three things that aren’t numbers of the day.

1) Push back at top slowly
2) Change Months and Days of Weeks on Discs Below
3) Time cannot efface Good Works or Good Deeds

Then it goes back to telling me what day it is. It always amuses me to see the inspirational quote in among the practical instructions.

While we’re on the topic of inspiration… I do these surveys asking me about things like laundry detergent. I never realized that people took them so seriously.

For me, scent in my laundry products is important because it brings back memories - memories from the past and memories that I can pass on to others. I often am reminded of different experiences because I recognize a familiar scent. (pass your laundry scent on to your children)

Cleaning and caring for my laundry is important, but smells are an intrusion or unnecessary. Simpler is always better. I shy away from unfamiliar scents for a variety of reasons - or may even use unscented products. (Heaven forbid)

I feel I've got to put a lot of extra effort into the laundry process because I want to get great end results. Scent is little more than a signal that tells me my laundry is clean and a finishing touch to a job well done. (crazy ocd much?)

I love scent and I use it as a way to make life and laundry more enjoyable. I look for laundry products that offer scent variety since different scents appeal to me. I will try different scents, but if I find one that I really like then I tend to stay with it until I decide it is time for a change. (I like my life and laundry to be enjoyable, but not necessarily in that order.)

The ill effects of rum and cokes

There was a new years party at the Art Alliance near fashionable Rittenhouse Square that went awry. By the way they still have the original invite up. It was also a fundraiser for the Sbarro Health Research Organization (SHRO), which may or may not have anything to do with the pizza franchise. Rich people went to a party that was oversold and they ran out of most liquors and beer. The first article quoted a shocked partygoer as saying, “I had to drink rum and cokes like I was at a frat party.” Then people couldn’t even get to the bar and everyone got kicked out before midnight.

This led to stolen and defaced artwork, which articles in the Metro seem to imply is the logical conclusion to such a party and certainly the fault of the party promoter or restaurant. Really, I think people should be a little more upset at those who stole the art and trashed the place, but I guess when you give people who used to be in sororities and frats frat party drinks it is understood that they revert to their old ways. Not their fault. I also really wish the Metro would put their articles online because their overdramatic writing isn’t really present in the articles I can find. Today, they described the party as “spiraling out of control” as though there was a stampede or something. The party promoter, by the way is heir to a blueberry fortune.
So while I appreciate the absurdity of a story about a blueberry heir swindling fancy folks out of a champagne toast leading them to trash a high society social institution… well I guess there is no but. I just wanted to share this absurdity with you guys.

NYC 1/20/06-1/22/06

Hey all. I know I’ve neglected this blog recently with the holidays and things, but it is time to get back into the swing of things. I’m planning a trip to NYC next weekend (1/20/06-1/22/06). Anyone in the area next weekend should e-mail or call me. I’m going to send out an e-mail to everyone who lives there, but now is the time to reserve your dulatime. I do mean everyone, by the way, not just my friends. So talk to me now before time burglars like Rosy Perez, the Naked Cowboy, or that guy who hangs out on the steps in Grand Central know I’m in town. Once they start making demands on my time the whole weekend will be taken up.

The future of downtown?

This is a weird tram thing that just came out. I think it is pretty interesting, but would like to make fun of the presentation for a little bit, as per my usual style.

My favorite things in the intro are...The way it promises to stretch your walk time (in a way no different than a bus really).Do you find it hard to shop all day long? There is a solution for that too. You have to wait, but it is worth it to hear her soothing voice say, "Welcome to the world of SMRrTram (pronounced SmartTram)."
